Travel Tech News: AT&T Working to Build In-Flight 4G LTE Service

If you are a frequent flier and use wifi on planes services like Gogo, etc., you may know how painful it can be to use. Oftentimes, these types of services time out or go super slow, which can handicap your ability to get some work done while you are up in the air. Currently, there aren’t many options for in-flight wifi, but AT&T is working to change that with the announcement of their 4G LTE service that is specially designed for in-flight usage. It is being touted as an “4G LTE-based air-to-ground service to transform connectivity for the U.S. aviation industry and its passengers”. Per the press release: DALLAS, TEXAS, April 28, 2014 — AT&T* today announced plans to launch a high-speed 4G LTE-based in-flight connectivity service for airlines and passengers in commercial, business and general aviation. The service, planned to be available as soon as late 2015, will be capable of providing in-flight broadband for customers including fast, reliable Wi-Fi and onboard entertainment. Following launch, aviation customers can also expect improved connectivity solutions such as cockpit communications, maintenance operations and crew services. To deliver this new service, AT&T plans to build an innovative air-to-ground network in the continental United States, based on global 4G LTE standards, to provide fast speeds and efficient utilization of spectrum already owned by AT&T. As the architect and operator of the nation’s most reliable 4G LTE network**, AT&T has the expertise, spectrum and financial strength to transform airborne connectivity. This is indeed great news for travelers who want a steadier, more reliable connection while flying. In-flight broadband is a game changer for sure. Imagine being able to stream movies and other entertainment options while in the sky (currently with Gogo, you cannot stream certain services while in flight). This service won’t be available until late 2015, and it will be interesting to see what airlines AT&T partners with. Having something like this available on one carrier could make that a top choice for business flyers for sure, since many of them use in-flight wifi. Good going, AT&T. I will be bringing you more news about this new service as I get...

Hotel Review: NYLO Plano at Legacy

A few weeks ago, I went to Dallas, TX with TGI Fridays and I stayed at NYLO Plano at Legacy Hotel. I loved everything about this hotel from its fashion forward  decor to the friendly hotel staff.  I really wished I could’ve stayed there a few more days just to relax and catch up on life. As soon as I checked into my room, the first thing I saw was the huge window above the bed. Something about the window behind the bed seemed so inviting and relaxing. The work area was the perfect space to get work done! I plugged up my Microsoft Surface and just relaxed in the moment. Not only does the hotel offer free wi-fi but they also offer free water and coffee! I couldn’t believe they were giving things away for free what most hotels make you pay for. I was happy to see the bathrooms were just as nice as the living space, they really put a lot of thought into the design of this hotel. Overall, I truly enjoyed staying at NYLO, I even stopped by the bar to get a much needed cocktail. I asked the bartender for a sweet cocktail and he suggested I get the Heath Bar Cocktail, so I obliged! It tasted so good and just what I needed to take the edge off. So far this hotel is one of my favorites and I can’t wait to get back to Dallas for a chance to explore the hotel even more.  For my next stay, checking out the heated outdoor pool, and state of the art gym is at the top of my list. The landscaping and fire pits were simply amazing but since it was kind of a dreary day I want to go back to get the full effect. Dallas was good to me and I can’t wait to get back to visit NYLO again....

Hotel Review: Hilton Los Angeles Airport (LAX)

Hotel Review: Hilton Los Angeles Airport (LAX)

With my son living in Los Angeles now, I take a trip to Cali every five to six months to visit. During two visits, I stayed at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport (LAX) location. One of the reasons why I opt for this property is it is right by the airport, which makes it easy to get to after I land and when I need to leave. It also is usually affordable. I opt for the AAA rate, which has cost me between $99-$119 a night. For the accommodations and location, it’s a price that fits my budget. The Hilton Los Angeles Airport property isn’t posh—but it has been upgraded and features a restaurant and a cafe. It also has a pool, workout facilities, and spacious rooms which I love. One of the drawbacks of the location, however, it that is heavily used for conferences and events. So there is always a lot of traffic in the lobby area and at valet parking. If you are looking for a low-key spot, this probably isn’t the place for you. But if you are looking for a place that is clean and updated and priced right, Hilton Los Angeles (LAX) is your best bet. Check out pictures from my recent stay below. Please note, this was a Standard Queen Room. (this photo is from the Hilton LAX website) Since the price is always right, I can almost say with certainty I will be staying at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport (LAX) location the next time I am in the City of Angels. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it, right? For more information on the Hilton Los Angeles Airport location, click...

American Tourister Colora Spinner Review

On my trip to Dallas, I got a chance to travel with my American Tourister Colora 20″ Spinner. I received this luggage when I hosted my #DisneySide party so I was glad to put a few miles on her. I couldn’t have been happier when she arrived on my doorstep not only was it a surprise but she was pink so I was sold. I’ve always heard great things about American Tourister so it was great to finally get a chance to see it for myself. I was in Dallas for only one day so I felt the Colora 20″ Spinner was a perfect fit. It’s great if you are going on a short 1-2 day trip or maybe more if you aren’t an over-packer like myself. I was able to get a few outfits, 2 pair of shoes and my toiletry bag inside the spinner luggage. There are also pockets on the outside of the luggage to store a few things if you need a little more space. This luggage isn’t like your average fabric spinner, the luggage is very sturdy and built to handle strenuous traveling conditions, well worth the money! I also love that this luggage comes in a bright lime green color as well! I’m all about color when I’m traveling because it’s not only cute but it makes finding your luggage much easier. Overall, American Tourister Luggage lived up to its name,  I can’t wait to add on to my collection but for now I’m happy with this one. If you are looking for a great piece of luggage, I suggest check out American Tourister! They have many different collections and styles to fit your lifestyle. The pieces cost a little more but it’s well worth it, I can tell  you how many pieces of luggage I’ve went through being cheap trying to save money. You might as well get a great pieces to avoid wasting money in the future. To get more information go to...

Travel: Tips for Visiting the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

Last week, I went out of town to Dallas, I was gone and back before you knew it but not without exploring a few parts of Dallas. One of the great things I got a chance to do was visit the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. The Arboretum/Garden spans across 66 acres of land and a must see when visiting Dallas. We arrived in Dallas Thursday morning and that night we headed to the Arboretum to listen to music and enjoy the breeze. I was amazed at how many people came out on a Thursday night to listen to music and be amongst family and friends.  So here are my tips if you are visiting the Arboretum for the first time Bring a chair-this will ensure that you are comfortable and able to enjoy the music but if you don’t have a chair don’t forget to take a blanket. Wear comfortable shoes-yes, it’s a huge botanical garden, there is a lot of walking involved so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Bring dinner-you have the option to purchase food from the food trucks but this is a great time to pack a picnic basket. I saw guests with all types of food ranging from cheese and crackers to different varieties of pasta. If you are on a date or hanging out with your girlfriends this is the perfect time to show your foodie side. Bring wine-Yes,  you are able to bring wine to the arboretum, I suggest taking full advantage of this option. There are different acts and exhibits on different days so be sure to check the schedule ahead of time but there are always events being held every Tuesday and Wednesday. Lastly, don’t forget to take a moment to take it all in. The beauty of the campground is something to be seen, take time to enjoy God’s beautiful work and just stay in the moment. This is definitely a must see on my list, so the next time you are in Dallas make sure you stop by the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Disclosure: Pictures belong to Dallas Arboretum and Botanical...
