Restaurant Review: Perla at La Concha in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to eat inside of an oyster? Probably not. But that is just the type of experience you get when you dine at Perla, an American and seafood fare restaurant located inside of the La Concha Resort in San Juan. It is an interesting perspective that lets you dine while being surrounded by the ocean. Perla is a moderately priced to mid-exspensive restaurant with some of your favorites. Enjoy Seafood Ceviche, Fried Oysters, Grilled Shrimp in Coconut Curry Sauce, and more for an appetizer. Pan Roasted Sea Bass, Surf and Turf, Fennel Dusted Scallops, Baked Lobster Tail, amongst other selections for your main course. There are also soups and salads to select from, and a full dessert menu. I found the atmosphere to be very tranquil and appealing. The restaurant looks big from the outside, but is small and quaint once you step in. The tables are rather close together, so you do hear the chatter of the other guests sitting next to you, but the wonderful service and food more than make up for that. The bar area is also well-stocked and accommodated, and is a nice first-stop before venturing into the dining room. Perla is open for dinner only, and reservations are recommended. The restaurant and also be rented out for events. If you are staying at or near the La Concha resort, Perla is a must-visit. Below are a few photos I took during our dining experience at Perla Puerto Rico. Sorry they are a little dark: Here’s a photo of Perla from the outside. You can see it’s “oyster pearl” shape   For more information about Perla, visit their website. You can also read my review of the La Concha Resort in San Juan...

Bacardi Rum Distillery Tour in Puerto Rico

Bacardi Rum Distillery Tour in Puerto Rico

As you guys know Danyelle and I celebrated our birthdays in Puerto Rico!  Our birthdays are a day apart, so we thought what better way to celebrate our then by laying on the beaches of Puerto Rico. We spent 4 glorious days relaxing, drinking and doing absolutely nothing. Which is very rare for the both of us. While in Puerto Rico we decided we wanted to see and try new things; Danyelle and I are all about experiences so we jumped at the opportunity to get a tour of the Bacardi Rum Distillery in Puerto Rico. We took a cab from our La Concha Resort and headed over to the distillery. When we arrived we were greeted by the host and given 2 free drink tickets, tours run every 20-30 minutes so we had a little time on our hands.  So, we headed to the bar! I mean, when it Rome do what the Romans do…or in this case when in Puerto Rico… We had the opportunity try different Bacardi Rum flavors or try the Bacardi Punch. I decided to try the Bacardi Punch and boy was it love at first sip. That punch is what dreams are made of…seriously!  Soon it was time to go on our tour, we hopped on the tram and off to Bacardi land we went. Our tour guide was amazing, as he took us in and out of the buildings he gave us a brief history on Bacardi Rum and how the brand got started. We learned things about Bacardi we never knew going back to when the Bacardi family started the brand back in Cuba. Next we headed got a peak at how rum is made, though you don’t get an actual tour of the distillery.  Think more like a Bacardi Rum Museum Tour versus a distillery tour. So if you are looking to go behind the scenes of a real distillery that was not an option on this tour.  We got a chance to look at some of the Bacardi Family memorabilia and then we headed into a quick session with the Bacardi Mixologist. After his session we were allowed to sample more rum. The tour lasted about an hour and at the end you are able to take pictures to email yourself or upload on social media. The tour ended at the Bacardi Rum gift shop where you are able to purchase any and all things Bacardi. All in all, Danyelle and I had a blast! Not only did we have fun but we learned something new. And by the way did I fell to mention the tour was free! Yes, free…. Tell me what is better than free Bacardi! If you plan on going to Puerto Rico and you have an hour to spare, I most definitely suggest checking out the Barcardi Rum tour....

Hotel Review: La Concha Resort San Juan, Puerto Rico

Last week, Raijean and I celebrated both of our birthdays by traveling to San Juan, Puerto Rico for some fun in the sun. It was a trip that has been in the works for some time, as she and I have birthdays that are a day apart. We wanted to go somewhere that neither one of us had been before, so we decided on Puerto Rico. We were looking for some fun in the sun with a caribbean vibe and tropical landscape and that is just what we got. After doing some research on some of the top resorts in the area, I booked us a Junior Suite at the La Concha Resort, which is a Renaissance property owned by Marriott. The resort built in the late 1950’s (think Miami Art Deco style) has been updated and boasts ocean views and a private beach. With five restaurants on site, five pools, a casino, a bar, and much more, La Concha is a well appointed property that gives you the best that Puerto Rico has to offer. The service was top notch, and our room was fantastic and worth the upgrade charge for the view alone. La Concha is one of the busier properties on the island, so one drawback for me was that there seemed to be a shortage at the concierge desk (called the Navigator). Raijean and I were both looking to book tours and such on our visit, but never got an answer when we called the desk. The casino was rather small, but showcased a fun atmosphere, and we indulged in a few games of Blackjack and Craps. We were also most impressed with two of the restaurants at La Concha: Voga Italian Grill and Perla (reviews of both of these fine dining restaurants coming soon). The food was exquisite and priced well. Room service was also prompt, and the food fresh. I really felt pampered while there. Here are a few photos of our Junior Suite at La Concha. It was love at first sight!: Junior Suite at La Concha Resort Balcony Views Front view of La Concha Resort San Juan Main Pool Area   La Concha is conveniently located to many restaurants and shops that are within walking distance. You can’t beat the location. For more information regarding La Concha Resort San Juan, visit their website here. If you are looking for an amazing place to stay while in Puerto Rico, I highly recommend La Concha. Disclaimer: This review is based on our own experience at the property. RoadTrippin: Hitting the Road in the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Disclosure: I was loaned this vehicle in exchange for my social influence and honest review. The opinions in this review belong to me and are not indicative of the companies or brands mentioned. While trekking Atlantic City, New Jersey for the Memorial Day weekend, I was loaned the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport to enjoy and review. I hadn’t had many experiences with Mitsubishi, so I was anxious to get acquainted with the brand and their family friendly four door vehicle with four wheel drive. When it comes to navigating through hilly terrains and difficult weather while looking sleek and sporty, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport nails it. It drives like a heavy duty truck, but gives you a ride that seats for comfortably. It is also small enough to be good on gas and fit into tights spots—but big enough to get through less than pleasant weather. During our road trip to Atlantic City, it rained most of the way, shifting from light rain to a heavy torrential downpour. I always felt in control of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and while we did hit some hilly areas, I was able to get through without a problem. I most enjoyed the size of the vehicle—perfect for a small family. I can see this car being used on trips, long or short, or just while running day-to-day errands and such. It boasts a pretty nice sized trunk area for light to moderate luggage. The car I was given didn’t have a navigational system included, although I believe you can purchase one as an upgrade. It also has an awesome Rockford Fosgate stereo system and speakers which makes it an awesome vehicle to listen to sounds in. Here are other features of the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport: Rear-View Camera System 7 Airbag Safety System Sirius-XM radio Heated side-view mirrors Auto-off halogen lights Four-wheel or All-wheel drive The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport  gets an average of 24 city miles and 31 highway miles. Learn more about the vehicle here. We had an awesome time during our Memorial Day weekend trip (click here to read more about it). Next, I will be reviewing the 2015 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD. Stay tuned! Special thanks to Rod and Josh at STI for the...

Hotel Review: 21 C Museum Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio

Hotel Review: 21 C Museum Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio

A few weeks ago, I headed to Cincinnati, Ohio for the Love the Pet, Not the Mess conference with P& G and I had a ball! During our visit we stayed at the gorgeous 21 C Museum Hotel and I loved every minute of it. As soon as guests arrived, we were greeted at the door by the hotel staff. This hotel is unlike other hotels in the traditional sense of the word. You check-in at a table instead of some grand lobby and the staff was so friendly and welcoming.  After checking in I headed up to my room to rest for a few moments and start the day. As soon as I arrived in my room, P&G had the cutest bag waiting for me, my dog loved all of his new goodies. After checking out the room, I went to check out the bathroom. To me the bathroom was the best feature in the room, it’s the kind of bathroom you wish you had a home. Upon walking into my room, I noticed the staff had left a ducky in my room for me… And if that wasn’t cute, the tile was perhaps the most unique tile I’ve ever seen. Each bathroom contained body part tiles. Don’t judge me but I thought this was the coolest thing ever.  Guests receive free wi-fi as well as free water, coffee and tea. You definitely get more bang for your buck at this hotel. Not only is this hotel a great place to stay but it’s also a fun place to stay. They had these cute penguins throughout the entire hotel, as you can see I had 2 guarding my door while I was there. Overall, I had a great time at 21 C Museum Hotel, the staff was great and the the hotel was modern and clean. This is definitely my go to hotel when in...

Hotel Review: NYLO Plano at Legacy

Hotel Review: NYLO Plano at Legacy

A few weeks ago, I went to Dallas, TX with TGI Fridays and I stayed at NYLO Plano at Legacy Hotel. I loved everything about this hotel from its fashion forward  decor to the friendly hotel staff.  I really wished I could’ve stayed there a few more days just to relax and catch up on life. As soon as I checked into my room, the first thing I saw was the huge window above the bed. Something about the window behind the bed seemed so inviting and relaxing. The work area was the perfect space to get work done! I plugged up my Microsoft Surface and just relaxed in the moment. Not only does the hotel offer free wi-fi but they also offer free water and coffee! I couldn’t believe they were giving things away for free what most hotels make you pay for. I was happy to see the bathrooms were just as nice as the living space, they really put a lot of thought into the design of this hotel. Overall, I truly enjoyed staying at NYLO, I even stopped by the bar to get a much needed cocktail. I asked the bartender for a sweet cocktail and he suggested I get the Heath Bar Cocktail, so I obliged! It tasted so good and just what I needed to take the edge off. So far this hotel is one of my favorites and I can’t wait to get back to Dallas for a chance to explore the hotel even more.  For my next stay, checking out the heated outdoor pool, and state of the art gym is at the top of my list. The landscaping and fire pits were simply amazing but since it was kind of a dreary day I want to go back to get the full effect. Dallas was good to me and I can’t wait to get back to visit NYLO again....
